90′s Style is Back!

The “I-don’t-give-a-damn” attitude of the 90’s is making a comeback. Badmaash Company, the movie starring Shahid Kapoor and Anushka Sharma, portrayed this comeback at its best.

It’s designerchas admitted referring to various movies of the 90’s starring Akshay Kumar, SRK, Madhuri Dixit etc to get the look right. In fact she went to the extent of checking out her uncle’s wardrobe to help her get the right look for the cast of Badmaash Company.

In Ameira’s opinion, people today are very free spirited and like to follow their own mind. Hence, they believe in showcasing their likes and dislikes or state of mind by what they wear instead of simply following the fashion trend!

90’s was a time when India didn’t really have a lot of influence from the west. Hence people relied on their own fashion instincts and dressed the way they liked. This was the major reason why there was such a huge variety in clothes then as everyone followed only what their mind said. She believes it was a time when people dressed in other to look hep and cool but didn’t go overboard with it, they kept it simple so that they could be comfortable wearing it. This ultimately led to the biggest fashion statement: being comfortable in what you wear.

Ameira says that the reason the 90’s are making a comeback is because today’s youth doesn’t mind portraying what’s in their mind and is looking for style and comfort.

Shahid Kapoor gains one up on Ranbir Kapoor

Bollywood can throw up some surprises and there was one in store in the month of May with Shahid Kapoor getting a well deserved success in the form of ‘Badmaash Company’. Till the day of the film’s release, many in the industry doubted if it would manage to even break even. However, as things stand today, junta has given a Thumbs-Up to the film with the first week collections boasting of a bountiful 21 crores. This is the second best start ever for Shahid Kapoor whose ‘Kaminey’ had opened better than ‘Badmaash Company’ last week. However, the budget here is half of what ‘Kaminey’ would have cost which means that there are celebrations galore for Shahid Kapoor.

Shahid Kapoor and Aditya Chopra finally enjoy a Success

At the box office, ‘Badmaash Company’ has managed to take an opening which is better than what one would have expected. While one was looking at a 50%-60% start, there was a pleasant surprise in store as collections were a little more than 60% all over. Considering the fact that there was a perception being built around Shahid Kapoor, courtesy his crop of films after ‘Kaminey’, several in the industry believed that ‘Badmaash Company’ would take a hit because of that. However, such perceptions were completely misplaced because except for ‘Chance Pe Dance’ which was a genuine flop for Shahid, the low performance of ‘Paathshaala’ or ‘Dil Bade Hadippa’ couldn’t be attribuited to him.

Crucial Week for Shahid Kapoor

Shahid Kapoor’s Badmaash Company has arrived this week and a lot is being said and heard about this Yash Raj film being an all important release for the Kaminey star. Let’s pause for a second and re-look at the situation. Should one really be making a big deal about the failure of Paathshaala? Not really, because this was a two year old release which just happened to arrive now as an end of Shahid’s backlog. Moreover, the film isn’t quite a disaster as it is being made out to be and would eventually just about manage to be a coverage affair taking into account mediums other than theatrical. It was never THE film which Shahid or his fans would have pinned much hopes on in any case.

Before that, Shahid’s Chance Pe Dance had arrived and failed. Yes, now that film was indeed a big stumble for Shahid since he was relying a lot on his bona fide ‘dance film’. However, it is surprising to see that some are terming post-Kaminey phase for Shahid Kapoor to have been made of a hat trick of flops. That’s wrong because Dil Bole Hadippa was never a flop; it was a lot better than being a coverage fare and made profits for all involved. Moreover, it was more of a Rani Mukerjee film than that of Shahid Kapoor.

Parmeet Sethi turns Director with Badmaash Company

parmeet sethiIn a brief chit – chat with actor turned director Parmeet Sethi speaks his heart to Lipika Varma.

What is Badmaash Company all about?

This story is about four friends. I have always been reading about different scams. Telgi scam, bank scam. The society around you dictates you at times. I was influenced by these scams that I would read and always wondered how they got away with it. It’s nothing real on reel. This is a fictional story which I finished writing in six days.

I Wish I Was A Part Of Films Like 3 Idiots, Dhoom or for that Matter Krissh – Shahid Kapoor

Is Badmaash Company a film on scam jobs?

At the face of it, it may seem to be a film on a con job scam, where the protagonists do wrong things in the right way, but in effect it is actually a journey of four different friends. It is about their coming of age, their relationship, their understanding of life etc. A lot happen to them fast and the impact it has on their lives forms the crux of the subject. It is a film which has an emotional base. I feel that any day any film with emotional base will connect to people easily.
