Katrina Kaif: M.F Hussain’s New Muse

Katrina Kaif has come a long way. With countless number of hit films to her credit, she is indisputably the ruling queen of Bollywood now. Her last powerhouse film Raajneeti, has surpassed the box office expectations.

katrina kaif

She has impressed the critics and fans alike, with her almost perfect Hindi and her acting skills. Another achievement of this sexy beauty is that she has caught the eye of the world renowned artist and film director M.F Hussain.

M.F Hussain is known for selecting Bollywood beauties as his muse, his previous muses included the Dhak Dhak girl Madhuri Dixit , the elegant Tabu, sexy seductress Urmila Matondkar with the last being the girl next door, Amrita Rao.

Now after watching the film Yuvraaj twice, the legendary artist is entranced by Miss Kaif’s beauty. He will commemorate her beauty on canvas and make it timeless.

M.F Hussain is certainly not the first person to be awestruck by Katrina’s beauty, but he will certainly be the first to paint her and make her beauty immortal.

‘Raajneeti’ Occupies Top Spot; Karan Laughs off Rift with Sajid

Super success of ‘Raajneeti’ has laid one speculation to rest at least. Till about a fortnight ago, there was an apparent tension between the film makers Karan Johar and Sajid Khan. Both believed that their respective films – ‘My Name Is Khan’ and ‘Housefull – were the biggest hits so far in the year 2010. However, the continued good run of ‘Raajneeti’ means that the two films are all set to be pushed down from the No. 1 spot with one clear winner – the Prakash Jha directed political thriller.

‘Raajneeti’ Shocks; Next Only to ’3 Idiots’

All predictions about ‘Raajneeti’ have failed. Yes, it was supposed to be a good film. Yes, it did carry good expectations. Yes, it did have a pan-India appeal. Yes, it did promise a good opening. But no, just about no one expected it to enjoy the second best opening ever after ’3 Idiots’. ’3 Idiots’, did I say? That’s right! ‘Raajneeti’ took an astonishing start and that too of such a scale that it ended up enjoying 34 crores (yes, your read it right) from the first weekend. This is simply unbelievable because in the process of doing so, it has also broken the records by ‘Kites’ and before that ‘Housefull’ which was at the third place till not many moons back.

Finding itself placed second in the elite list of super opening films like ’3 Idiots’, ‘Kites’, ‘Housefull’ and ‘Ghajini’, ‘Rajneeti’ has scored and how. Early indications clear state that ‘Rajneeti’ will now challenge ‘Housefull’ and ‘My Name Is Khan’ to be the biggest money spinner of the year. Both the films have crossed 70 crores at the box office and though it would be an interesting journey for ‘Rajneeti’ from here on, it could well cross the milestone if it holds on quite well in the second weekend.

Will it be able to do? It possibly could because of three reasons:

1) When compared to ‘Kites’, which had opened just below, ‘Rajneeti’ is a far superior film.

2) It has been hailed by critics as well as appreciated by audience.

3) Reports at certain quarters are mixed but the feedback ranges from average to must watch. There are no ‘don’t watch’ comments.

Similar were the reports in case of ‘Housefull’ as well as ‘My Name Is Khan’ where no one ‘hated’ the film.

Of course a serious theme coupled with heavy treatment at places means that a repeat watch would be difficult to achieve. However, with no notable release this weekend and ‘Raavan’ being the only roadblock for next three weeks, ‘Rajneeti’ could well enjoy a comfortable place for itself under the sun.

What went right? As predicted in this very column last week, just about everything i.e. the plot, cast, music, buzz, hype, timing and promotion. Add to that some powerful performances by three pillars of the film – Ranbir Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Manoj Bajpayee – and Prakash Jha ensured that a five year wait since the release of ‘Apaharan’ was pretty much worth it.

Katrina’s Last Minute Dubbing Correction

This is surely the first time in the history of Indian cinema that such a thing has happened. One wrongly-pronounced word in her crucial public speech in Raajneeti had Katrina Kaif almost hysterical with anxiety just days before release.

This is the story of how she returned to dubbing after the film’s entire post-production was done and the film was ready for release. The incorrectly-pronounced word was satta (politics) which came out sounding like satya (truth) in her speech.

Movie Review: Raajneeti (2010)

Rajneeti: Prakash Jha Take A Bow

Rating: 4 out of 5*

Starring: Ajay Devgan, Nana Patekar, Ranbir Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Katrina Kaif, Manoj Bajpai and Naseeruddin Shah

Director: Prakash Jha

It is said that the epic saga of Mahabharata contains all the stories that exist in this world, be it lies, deceit, lust for power, revenge. In short all those that can make a solid impact. Prakash Jha taking a cue from this has set his big canvass film Rajneeti against an Indian political backdrop. But then at the same time he has merged dollops of The Godfatherwithin it. Nonetheless, the end product makes a compelling watch.
