Whatever Shahrukh Khan does is news. This time around, Shahrukh Khan launches his Kolkata Knightriders theme songs album ‘2 Hot 2 cool’ in association with Nokia. ‘Karbo, larbo, jeetbo’ number by Vishal-Shekar is already a hit, and now this album consists tracks by Bappi Lahri, Pritam and Vishal-Shekar. It does not end here, because Shahrukh Khan himself has sung one song in the album which is composed by Bappi Lahri. Bappi Lahri says that SRK is India’s Michael Jackon. I don’t know what he means by that. 
The first IPL game between SRK’s Kolkata Knightriders and Vijay Malaya’s Royal Challengers will take place today, so get glued to your television as Saurav Ganguly will take on Rahul Dravid. And….. SRK is the 12th man.

I always thought that Anu Malik is the king in ripping tunes from other languages, but our happening music composer, Pritam, proves me wrong and overtakes Anu in every possible way. I know that our Bollywood composers copy from English, and sometimes Arabic, but our Pritam has not even spared the Koreans and Indonesians. What a personality! Pritam speaks to BollywoodHungama on his ripping of Anggun’s French number in Jab We Met:
“I’ve never denied the sources for my songs. So why should I deny it now? But the fact is, I had never heard Anggun’s song when I composed the song in Jab We Met. I don’t know the song myself. My friend who’s a keyboard player had the groove programmed. I liked the groove and I composed my tune on it. I composed the song in front of so many people. I can guarantee the melody isn’t anyone’s but my own. I must admit the groove is similar to the one in my song. But that’s it. And too to is totally unintentional. Not a note in the rest of my song sounds like Anggun’s tune. And if anyone can prove I’ve copied her song I’m ready to stop composing songs forever.”
Yep, this is the first time such a thing has happened to Pritam. Every time it’s his friend who copies the music and poor Pritam is blamed. I agree. I even agree that if someone gives him the proof, he would stop composing music forever. I trust every word of Mr. Pritam.
“In fact, let me tell you my songs in Mukesh Bhatt’s forthcoming film, Jannat, which I had claimed were completely original are no longer so. Some parts of the soundtrack now have borrowed sounds.”
There he goes! I know that Pritam cannot come up with anything original, and since he knows that he will be caught in no time by us, he is openly accepting. Smart move, Mr. Copy-Cat!
“But ‘Yeh Ishq Haye’ in Jab We Met is an absolute original.”
Yeah, yeah, it is absolutely original.
I know that it’s difficult for Mr. Pritam to create original tracks, but at least he should give credit to the original composer on the music cover.

There is no need for me to tell you that this is a BIG film. I have considered Abbas-Mustan one of the better directors in Bollywood who also have a great ear for music. Their last movie Naqaab was disappointing movie and music wise but there is no reason for this talented duo not to get back on track with Race. And with a star cast of Saif Khan, Akshay Khanna, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor and Bipasha Basu, this film looks very promising.
The music is by the Pritam, who is the most popular music director these days.
- Race Saanson Mein - The moment this song begins, you know this one is a chartbuster. The lyrics however are not good - mainly because the word “race” has been completely forced in. They wanted to make this the title song but the main mukhra of the song is the part “Allah duhaai hai…betaabi chaahi hai”. Neeraj sings very well but Sunidhi Chauhan is even better. 8/10
- Zara Zara Touch Me - This song sung by Monali is a nice, upbeat, and sexy number. In my opinion these types of songs are Pritam’s forte. Another possible chartbuster! 8/10
- Pehli Nazar Mein - Atif Aslam is back…is that a good thing? He made a grand entry in Bollywood by singing some really nice songs. But recently his songs (especially in his album) have been weak. Even this song is nothing great, although his fans will probably like it because of him. 5/10
- Dekho Nashe Mein - And here we have the worst song of the album. This latin flavored song goes wrong as soon as the “oh baby rock the dance floor” part comes. I thought such stupid songs were limited to Karan Johar films but apparently the trend is catching on (sighs). Even a talented team of Shaan, Sunidhi, and KK cannot save this one. 3/10
- Mujhpe To Jaadu - The last orginal song of the album (the rest of the songs are remixes) is sung by Taz, Apache Indian, and Sunidhi Chauhan. This song is not bad at all, but the English in this song is too corny. Ignore that part and this song is pretty good. 7/10

SEXY LADY - Are Abbas-Mustan geniuses or just lucky? Just when everyone was about to get tired of the Race songs, they added to the movie the best song. Not only is Pritam’s music rocking, Katrina Kaif’s dance moves add even more sexiness to this already sexy track. The only complaint I have is that it is way too short!! It should have been longer than 3 minutes! This one is a winner all the way… 10/10
7.5 out of 10…Race is competing with Jannat for the current top soundtrack of 2008!
If you have been listening to the new songs these days you will notice that Anand Raj Anand is singing quite a few of them. He was requested by Pritam to sing the song Billo Raani from Goal. He has done a music video Himesh Reshammiya style in the Bhula Diya song from Dus Kahaniyaan. And he also sang 2 songs in Welcome along with composing them.
Anand Raj Anand has been in the industry for quite a while but has never received any recognition despite making good tunes throughout his career. So will this be a turning point for him? Will he be the new super star musician?
We don’t think so!
As you can see in the Bhula Diya video, it may be a very nice song but ARA just doesn’t have the personality like Himesh does. In the film Aggar the composer Mithoon also tried to make a Himesh style video but it did not gain popularity. Actually Mithoon looked quite funny with his ‘trying to be cool’ sunglasses.
ARA is a good composer and his voice is more tolerable to many people than Himesh’s voice. But the uniqueness of Himesh’s voice is exactly what makes his fans love him. He has started a new trend of music videos which other composers are trying to follow but failing.
At the end of the day there can and will be only one rock star….and we all know who he is.
