Sonam Kapoor defends Abhay for his Absence

In today’s Bollywood, a couple of months prior to the release of a film and the subsequent week are considered to be extremely important and precious for the successful promotion of the film.

It is due to this reason that the prime star cast of a film needs to be within the public eye for those two months preceding the release. Usually, the cast has to face several interviews, attend a number of promotional events, chat shows, photo shoots and need to promote the movie on social networking sites as well.

Sonam Kapoor Euphoric Over Aisha

Sonam left for Toronto on Sunday night. But not before expressing her happiness over the encouraging opening of Aisha. “I feel like a hero! I feel I’m shouldering the film. It’s daunting to know that heroes get an opening at the box office, and then you see my film get an opening! If I may say so, Aisha got a very decent opening. In any case it’s not very big-budgeted film.”

The entire budget seems to have gone into Sonam’s clothes. “Arrey, but I wore a lot of my own clothes from my wardrobe! And those are bought with my own money. Do you know I haven’t taken any money from my dad from the age of 18. Plus, there were around 70 designers who offered us clothes. We put together clothes, shoes, bags from what we were offered. We mix n’ matched from what was sent to us.”

Aisha manages a safe start to scrape through

After the men in Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai last week, the women in Aisha are in the focus of limelight this week. As expected, the film didn’t have a grand opening. Having an average start, it was supposed to manage to scrape through at least. The opening of a new movie is always expected to hover around the 50% mark and this is what happened with Aisha on the day of its release at multiplexes in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore.

Movie Review: Aisha (2010)

Aisha

Starring: Sonam Kapoor, Abhay Deol, Amrita Puri, Ira Dubey, Cyrus Shahukar, Arunoday Singh.

Aisha Abhay Deol Sonam Kapoor

Director: Rajshree Ojha

Rating: ***

The thing about shallow people from the beau monde is that they shouldn’t be played shallowly when brought to the screen.

Sonam Kapoor in a ‘tailor’-made role(where more moolah seems to have been spent on tailoring her chic outfits than on exploring the locations , sound sights scents and , yes, sense of this embarrassing world of excessive self-preening) gets the Jane Austen character right. Quite a leap for the actress!

Movie Review: Aisha (2010)

Aisha: A competent effort

Rating: 2.5 out of 5*

Starring: Sonam Kapoor, Abhay Deol, Amrita Puri, Lisa Haydon, Ira Dubey, Cyrus Sahukar and Arunoday Singh

Director: Rajshree Ojha

Aisha is based on Jane Austin’s popular novel Emma. Western filmmakers have attempted the big screen versions of Emma before and Rajshree Ojha has come up with a competent if not a fabulous Indianised version of the same with Aisha.

My character has been fleshed out much more than in Emma

Amrita Puri tells Jyothi Venkatesh that if skin show is very intrinsic for a character and is not necessarily incorporated for voyeuristic delight, she would consider opting for it.

Aisha may be her maiden tryst as far as acting in films is concerned, but then the newbie Amrita Puri isn’t exactly new to acting. She had a stint with the modern English theatre. Qazad Padamsee’s Engliash play ‘Retellings View From The Stage’ was the first play of the 26 year old actress.

Aisha to face competition from Once Upon A Time In Mumbai

Two releases separated by a week couldn’t have been more distinct than this. After a men-affair like Once upon A Time In Mumbaai which was largely dominated by Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi, is time for some female bonding with Aisha hitting the screens this week.

The promos clearly indicate that this would be a women-dominated show. Aisha clearly is the launch-pad for Sonam. Dad Anil Kapoor and sister Rhea have come together to ensure that this indeed happens.

Imran Khan said No to Anil Kapoor’s Offer

Sonam Kapoor and her sister Rhea who produces Aisha offered the male lead to Sonam’s pal Imran Khan. At that time Imran and Sonam were already doing I Hate Luv Storys and had become great buddies. Naturally Sonam presumed Imran would happily do her home production.

But the Kapoor family was in for a shock when Imran declined the offer pleading there was not much for him to do.

Anil admits Imran was indeed the first choice for Abhay Deol’s role.
