After not hearing from him for over a year, Himesh’s fans can rejoice now that the musician/singer/actor is finally back…in a remake of the classic film Karz.

Anytime you remake a classic, you will have your share of haters. Add to it the fact that Himesh Reshammiya (HR) alone has quite a large number of haters and you can clearly see this film has an uphill task in being successful.

karzzzz - himesh

On a personal note, I myself am not a Himesh hater…in fact I would consider myself a fan of his (music). Agreed that he may have his faults – but love him or hate him, you cannot deny the man’s talent (composing).

Ok on to the review for the most awaited film of the year!!

Lut Jaon Lut Jaon (Himesh Reshammiya & Harshdeep) – First comes the title track, which is…in one word…brilliant. Give it a few listens and you will be hooked too. The only complaint I have is the way Himesh pronounces the “lut jaaon” part. Other than that the song is perfect. HIT! Rating: ★★★★★

Hari Om Hari Om (Himesh Reshammiya) – I guess this is the Om Shanti Om of this version of Karz…Whereas the original gained a lot of popularity, this one isn’t expected to do the same. The tune sounds recycled and Himesh’s singing is too loud. Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Tandoori Nights (Himesh Reshammiya & Sunidhi Chauhan) – Tandoor ki roti, tandoori naan, tandoori chicken – this is what comes to mind when I hear tandoori. So it was a bit hard taking this song in a romantic way…because up until now there was nothing romantic about a tandoor. Have you ever seen a guy working at a tandoor? Hard work to say the least. The lyrics may be questionable, but Himesh comes up with a catchy tune which is sure to gain popularity (especially amongst his fans). Another potential HIT! Rating: ★★★½☆

Sohniye Je Tere (Himesh Reshammiya & Tulsi Kumar) – Next we have the immensely romantic Sohniye Je Tere which may sound like a vintage Himesh track (remember Samjho Na?). But surprisingly this song is almost a direct lift from a Punjabi folk song with the same title. Quite shocking considering the fact that aside from a couple exceptions, Himesh’s tunes have always been original. Anyhow the song is quite good, and so is the singing by both Himesh and Tulsi Kumar. Rating: ★★★★☆

Dhoom Tere Ishq Ki (Himesh Reshammiya) – This almost classical track is excellent – except for the “dhoom” parts which ruin everything! Himesh does a good job singing except in the above mentioned dhoom parts where he sounds awkward. Rating: ★★★☆☆

Sisak Sisak Ke (Himesh Reshammiya) – Musically and lyrically this sounds like a leftover from 2006, the year Himesh was dishing out these types of songs left and right. With that said, the song is still pretty catchy and looks like it was made especially for the dance floors and clubs. Rating: ★★★☆☆

Tere Bin Chain Na Aave (Himesh Reshammiya & Tulsi Kumar) – Trademark Himesh Reshammiya song. From the ooooo’s in the beginning to the lyrics to the music. The whole song sounds like something you have heard before. Himesh plays it safe and sticks to the type of composing he is most comfortable with. The end result isn’t bad at all – actually the song is pretty pleasant to say the least – except for the fact that you know that it’s made from all recyclable goods! Rating: ★★★☆☆

MashAllah (Himesh Reshammiya) – My guess is that this is the song that will be played in place of the classic “Darde Dil Darde Jigar”. It may take a few listens to get used to but turns out to be a big winner. The song starts of slow and sweet…but hidden in it Himesh has also fused some hard rock!! The hard rock part sounds extremely catchy and is the highlight of the song. HIT! Rating: ★★★★☆

Ek Haseena Thi (Himesh Reshammiya & Shreya Ghosal) – Gulp….here comes the HUGELY popular song from the original…HR is sure to get bashed with this one. The new version has been a bit Himeshified but is basically on the same lines as the classic (musically and lyrically). The main difference is that this time, Himesh is the singer.

Now before the “haters” get too worked up that Himesh ruined the original, let me just say one thing to them. Its not as if he came into your house, took your record/cassette of Karz, and recorded his version on top of it! If you feel offended by this song by Himesh, just go listen to your original (if you still have it that is) and stop the complaining!

As far as the song is concerned, HR does a fine job by recreating the magic. The drums in the background give the song a new twist and his voice isn’t nasal. Shreya Ghosal sounds sweet as usual. Rating: ★★★★☆

Even after being gone for a year, Himesh Reshammiya has not lost his golden touch when it comes to music. One thing I feel however is that he shouldn’t sing ALL of his songs. His singing is best when heard sparingly (maybe one or two songs per album]. His tunes are still very good and if he lets other actual singers (Sonu Nigam, Shaan, KK, etc.) sing them, the songs have a chance to reach new heights. Even in this album, had he let other artists sing, the album would have been even better and would have appealed to a lot more people.

This album should be one of the biggest hits of the year (along with Jannat and Jaane Tu yah Jaane Na) and will only be rejected by the Himesh Haters (who are tired of his voice more than his music).

Overall Rating: ★★★½☆

At the end of the day…whether you love him or hate him…Himesh is back….with a vengeance!!!
