Mukesh Bhatt’s films may be very good or very bad, but they always provide something different. His films almost always have copied music, but it is always good music.
Emraan Hasmhi showed us in Awaraapan that he is a great actor. Music-wise his films have never disappointed. In fact it would be hard to find another actor with a music resume better than his.
Pritam is the hottest musician in Bollywood right now. And for good reason. He may be the biggest copycat in the history of Bollywood (even overtaking Anu Malik!) but you cannot deny the fact that this man dishes out hits after hits. His music is always popular amongst the masses.
So when all three of these men come together in a film…how can it ever go wrong?
- Zara Sa (KK Menon) - The album starts off the pleasant Zara Sa. The song is nice but problem is it doesn’t do much to seperate itself from the songs Pritam has composed previously for the Bhatt camp. The song is along the same lines as Tu Hi Mera Shab from Gangster but when compared to the former isn’t quite as good. It’s a nice song, although I must say Pritam’s oooo’s and o’s are becoming a bit redundant… Rating:
- Judai (Kamran Ahmed) - Last year it was Mustafa Zahid with To Pir Aao and Tera Mera Rishta. This year Kamran Ahmed is the Pakistani set to rock Bollywood. This is a good song, but if compared to the two gems by Mustafa Zahid in Awaarapan, it doesn’t quite measure up. Kamran scores the hattrick as the song has been written, composed and sung by him. Another pleasant rock track in this so far so good soundtrack! Rating:
- Lambi Judai (Richa Sharma) - Same song as above, but this time sung by female. Also happens to be the only song sung by a female in the male dominant soundtrack. Personally i prefer the Kamran Ahmed version. Rating:
- Haan Tu Hai (KK) -This song took a few listens to grow on me, but it turned to be my favorite of the album. Pritam fuses and melody with rock and the end result sounds very good. The highlight of the song is the way Pritam uses the guitar! Rating:
- Door Na Ja (Rana Muzumder) - This song bores for the first minute and a half, but then the music finally starts. The song is a bit melodramatic, but Pritam’s music once again gets the job done. Not bad! Rating:
- Jannat Jahaan (Rupam Islam) - Whereas the rest of the song was soft rock, the final song is hard rock. And very hard at that. There is screaming, mediocre music and situational lyrics. We had to know that after four good songs, there had to be a dud coming. Every movie has to have that one really bad song, and this is that song in Jannat! Rating:
Overall Rating: Jannat continues the Mahesh Bhatt/Emraan Hashmi/Pritam legacy!
