Movie Review: Welcome

First of all, No Entry is one of my favorite comedies from the last few years. It may not make any sense, but it was truly a hilarious film. Now considering this film is coming from the same director, of course the expectations were sky high.

Welcome is not a No Entry kind of funny, but it does have its great moments. Most of the comedy in it is the “stupid” kind of funny and almost cartoon-ish. But it works for the most part.

Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar, and Feroz Khan. With an all-star cast like that, it is almost impossible for the film not to be entertaining. Each one of these actors does their role to perfection and they are the reason this film entertains.

The movie doesn’t really have a specific story to speak of - it is a bunch of twists and turns. Basically it is about three dons/gangsters (Nana Patekar, Anil Kapoor, and Feroz Khan) and the main objective is to get Nana Patekar’s sister (Katrina Kaif) married into a good family. But as you may imagine, that can be quite a task for a gangster. On the other hand Paresh Rawal is also looking for a wife (with a good family) for his nephew (Akshay Kumar). I think you can guess the rest!

Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor are amazing as the two dons. The big don, Feroz Khan, does not have much of a role until the last 40 minutes of the movie. But he does an excellent job in the limited time he gets. Akshay Kumar excels in whatever role you give him. No comedy is a comedy without Paresh Rawal these days - this movie proves it.

Katrina Kaif looks gorgeous but still does not know how to act. All she does is look sexy and smile. And we cannot complain.

Mallika Sherwat’s role doesn’t make sense. Malaika Arora makes a guest appearance in the “Hont Rasile” song and looks amazingly sexy.

Suniel Shetty also makes a 30 second appearance to show the world he is still alive.

At the end of the day, this movie has no logic whatsoever and a lot of funny stupidity in it and will actually make you laugh out loud couple times. Few of the more hilarious scenes are:

• The fake “funeral”
• Anil Kapoor’s George Bush comment
• The “musical ball” game at the end
• Paresh Rawal’s neck problem in front of Anil Kapoor

7.5 out of 10…….If you ask for logic in this one, you are asking for too much!
