Movie Review of Race | Race starring Saif Ali Khan, Bipasha Basu, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor

Movie Review: Race

It’s been sometime since I wrote any movie review, so I decided to watch Race yesterday. First things first…Race is one of the finest thrillers made in recent times (I mean in Bollywood). So what makes it so good? Well, everything from star cast, direction, screenplay, dialogues to action. Abbas-Mustan, the director duo, have made sure that they give a new unexpected twist every 10 minutes, and it works big time.

The story is about two step-brothers, Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna, who try to outdo each other in the race of life. Giving company to them areKatrina Kaif and Bipasha BasuAnil Kapoor plays a detective andSameera Reddy, his dumb assistant.

The most interesting part of Race is that every character is grey shaded.

Coming to the performance part:

  • Saif Ali Khan is in great form. He takes his character from Ek Haseena Thi a step further by portraying a ruthless and cunning businessman.
  • Akshaye Khanna is also in great form. He brings back the Humraaz effect by playing Saif Ali Khan’s equally cunning step-brother.
  • Bipasha Basu is not that good, but this should be her finest performance. I was relieved to see her act properly because had given hopes after watching Goal.
  • Katrina Kaif was never an actress and she proves it yet again, but her screen presence is enough for us to keep her watching. Watch her move in songs like Zara Zara and Sexy Lady.
  • Anil Kapoor injects the needed humor in this fast paced thriller by playing a detective who keeps on eating fruits. His dialogues are full of double-meanings, but too witty.
  • Sameera Reddy is there just to add some more glamour to the already glamour filled movie.
  • Jonny Lever, who is always a part of any Abbas-Mustan movie, is in just one sequence playing a marriage registrar. His comparison of Wife and Mobile Phone is one of the funniest comedies seen in recent Hindi movies.
  • Pritam’s music gels well with the movie. Zara Zara and Atif Aslam’s track stand out.
  • Abbas-Mustan are back in form after a real long time. Race can be compared to their mega blockbusters like Khiladi and Baazigar.
  • Action is good, but could have been better. Camera movements are of international standards.

Verdict: A good masala entertainer with loads of action, glamour and pumping music.

Rating: ★★★★☆
